Following the capture of Wilson Fisk by Spider-Man, a masked gang known as the Inner Demons begins seizing Fisk’s illicit assets. Mary Jane and Spider-Man learn that the Demons are seeking something called Devil’s Breath. With the aid of Officer Jefferson Davis, Spider-Man thwarts a Demon attack.
Where the first game starred Peter Parker, and its spin-off starred Miles, this one has both. Story missions choose for you, but often swap seamlessly between them as the action demands. Out in the open world, you’re free to change at will, with only a handful of activities requiring one or the other. In keeping with Insomniac’s track record, the music behind it all is stellar, with Miles’ and Peter’s respective signature tunes playing depending on who you’re controlling. A highlight, though, is the theme that follows in Kraven’s footsteps, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Howard Shore’s Uruk-hai war march from The Lord of the Rings score.
Upon seeing Peter wearing the exosuit, Connors reveals that it is actually an alien lifeform called a symbiote, which Oscorp obtained years prior from a meteorite, and warns Peter to destroy it. Under the symbiote’s corrupting influence, Peter refuses and keeps it for himself despite learning that Harry’s illness has returned, straining their friendship. As Peter goes on a symbiote-induced rampage against the Hunters (even nearly killing Mary Jane at one point), Kraven captures Miles and forces him to fight Li. Miles overcomes his anger towards Li and helps him escape, directing him to find Peter. Once Li informs him of Miles’ location, Peter arrives to storm Kraven’s fortress in an effort to rescue him and nearly kills Kraven before Miles intervenes, defeating the corrupted Peter and convincing him to remove the symbiote.

This borough remains a fully explorable area and will still hold vital plot points in its districts. Over time, the Venom symbiote created its own offspring, which bonded with a serial killer named Cletus Kasady to form the new villain Carnage. Sensing a greater threat than his grudge with Spider-Man, Venom reluctantly agreed to work with Peter to stop their mutual enemies and the two have maintained an uneasy truce, occasionally dipping back into their old conflicting ways. Since then, Venom has become something of a lethal protector rather than an all-out villain, protecting the innocent, albeit with more excessive force than his old webslinging rival. The Best There Is Suit is an original design by Insomniac, based on the Wolverine comic run of the same name, and is a new suit for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This is a two-phase fight against the Symbiote as it turns into a hulking beast of a thing you have to take down. [newline]The first phase sees you play as Spider-Man, and then the second time you fight the Symbiote Behemoth, you play as MJ and get some revenge for the whole Scream debacle.

And the way both characters’ powers grow over the course of the story are very satisfying. The first game laid the groundwork for how fun swinging as Spider-Man can be. So make sure your reaction time is sharp before you don the super suit.

The popular anti-hero may serve as a villain, a not-so-friendly ally in a greater battle, or perhaps even a mix of both throughout the game. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man game without the man of the hour, Peter Parker. Players will reprise the role of Spidey in Insomniac’s sequel, stepping into the shoes of the friendly neighborhood hero – though he won’t be alone. Since the game lets you play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, this motif of them coming together to overcome their villains.
During the It Chose You main story mission, Peter will venture into the sewers of New York. As he does so, a sneaky reference to the development team, Insomniac, is hidden. As Peter lifts the sewer grate, you’ll see “Insomniac Games” inscribed into the metalwork. Much like the previous Insomniac Spider-Man titles, the city of New York in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is filled to the brim with references and easter eggs that link out to the wider Marvel universe, amongst other fun nods and winks.
Jefferson is lauded for his heroism at a re-election event for Mayor Norman Osborn. The Demons attack the event, killing Jefferson and many other attendees. Peter witnesses Martin Li transforming into their leader, Mister Negative, but is knocked unconscious before he can intervene. Following the attack, Norman hires Silver Sablinova and Sable International to supplant the police.
Hopes were high when the teasers at the end of both Spider-Man and Miles Morales teased the arrival of Venom. And, thankfully, it’s the only part of the story they actually did well. Using g28 to tell a tragic tale of two friends, instead of the more standard Eddie Brock story. Insomniac easily could have simply reused the map from Spider-Man and Miles Morales. A mostly accurate recreation of New York City, with certain buildings missing and other ones added. It’s all part of delivering an epic Spider-Man adventure directly into your hands.
